The BEDS!!! These things have been such a huge "family" project! Though my brother and John and I made them, the wood came from my brother-in-law's lumber yard, my in-laws bought the wood, and dad's basement became the "woodshop." (Thanks you guys for the part you had in getting these beds home!) The picture above has the bedroom door open. The way the beds were before we fixed them today, you couldn't open the door all the way. The beds were too long. My brother John (too many John's in the family) lopped off 2 inches and now they are PERFECT. Ain't it perrrty? *contented sigh* One drawer has three sections, the other has two.
These are the "sawed off" pieces of the beds. (I thought this little heap of kindling made a good photo op!) "My" John and I are still working on the second set of drawers, but the beds are all cut down and fit in the kids' room quite nicely!
When the beds are stacked into bunks, there will be two "extra" drawers, so my brother designed the drawers so that the three-sectioned ones can stand up and be bookshelves! (I told ya he was a genius!)
Ok, and not only is he a genius, but he's COOL, too! He made the "non-bookshelf" drawers to have Secret Drawers underneath them for treasures! This picture has the drawer pulled out, but it slides in that spot under the drawer here. The envelope sitting in the drawer has a dollar in it... My brother said he couldn't make a treasure spot without putting a little treasure in it! He made this part as a surprise to us, and when he showed it to us, I cried! It was just too cute. (Ok, well, you woulda cried too, I bet!!)
Well, that was fun. Just had to gush a little about how the room is coming together. Hopefully this weekend we'll finish up the second set of drawers and call it all DONE! Mom Fisher says the quilts are coming along, so I'll post pics of The Room when it is all finally finito.
