We have the future "nursery" packed with boxed and tagged stuff that people have dropped off for our "adoption fundraiser rummage sale!" Plus our shed is getting full if it isn't already, and now we are having to start putting things in a friend's garage.  It has been fun, but it has been WORK!  We thought you'd all like an update on how things have been going.

Loads and loads of Stuff have been dumped off on and off for the past two weeks... And we hear there is more on the way!!!  Exciting!  Last week alone we had seven families dump stuff off at our door, and some of them made two trips!  Mom and Dad Fisher are coming home from Grandpa and Grandma Van Schyndel's house this weekend with some things for us too.

And the Fisher's haven't even sent their stuff over yet, and that could be a Scary drop off.  Just last week Mom F. said she was tempted to stop at a rummage sale near her house to see if she could buy some stuff for OUR sale.  She didn't, and I'm GLAD.  We'll have PLENTY of stuff without doing that!  (Gotta love that attitude though! ;o)

Since so many people have asked, I made a list of some of our treasures:

  • Biggest thing we've gotten:  Computer armoire  (brand new!  It is the kind that has the doors that close it in to hide the "mess."  Oak-colored.  Beautiful.)

  • Most likely to be a "Road Show" find:  Star Trek collector's buttons, a few old ceramic vases with labels on the bottom of them.

  • Thing that caused most heart-pounding excitement:  International timepiece that tells the hour in different parts of the world like Sydney, London and Bangkok:  We've had to dig through boxes to shut the alarm off, Twice.
  •
  • Things we've gotten the most of:  glasses, figurines, bed sheets, home decore items

  • Things John is most alergic to:  Stuffed animals

  • Most unusual stuffed animal:  a buzzard

  • Most interesting kitchen gadget:  copper fondue pot/burner that was never used and still had the Christmas tag on it.

  • Hardest things to part with:  Baby clothes. I might just need those!  Most still have tags on.  (I just upped the price on them and if they don't sell, I get to keep them, right?)
  •
  • Biggest sacrifice:  A gal came by the house on Saturday giving us her grandmother's watch.  She'd just gone to Walmart to put a battery in it.  I guess she thought we needed the money for it more than she needed the sentiment.  Very touching.
  •
  • Other items we have include cast iron griddle, pizza oven, dishes, computer desks (3), handicapped potty lift, weber grill, air conditions, books, handicapped walker, puzzles galore, tractor tire for a sandbox, table and chairs, end table, really nice adult and boys' clothes, canister set, word processor w/monitor, lamps (3), filing cabinet, coffee maker, fan, space heater, kitchen countertops (brand new), large etched mirrors (2 large), Oriental-style rug, popcorn/cookie tins, wooden decorator shelves, and lots and lots of knick-knacks and "pretties."
  • It's been a lot of work, but we are excited!  We are pretty sure we've got too much stuff for a "garage sale" so we are trying to figure out what to do now as far as where to have this sale.  This is a good problem to have, mind you, but with the sale date being just under 3 weeks away, we are starting to kinda sweat a bit.  Things like this seem to pan out though.

Though this has been a fun and exciting time, I need to remember to not get *too* overwhelmed by all the work involved in this project and can keep "on top of it."  With each carload dropped off, I've been spending about three good hours sorting and tagging, and after last week, I know better than to put off tagging stuff (I had gotten to the point that there was NO path through the livingroom.  It was scary.  The picture of me sorting clothes is probably the "least" messy my livingroom has been in the last two weeks.  The baby in one of the pictures is John's sister's baby Glenn.  He was here "helping" for a few days this week.  For a little while he sat inside an empty box... it seemed like one of the only safe places for him!  Thankfully, he didn't seem to mind!

To all of you have given us your treasures, advice, well-wishes and help, Thank you!  We're looking forward to May 16 and 17th!  Our child awaits!

    Love,

Shelly (and John is around here too!)
